Serve Your Church

First United Methodist Church Richardson has a long history of serving others

Sometimes, we have to serve our own church in order to provide radical hospitality, passionate worship, and intentional faith development to our fellow members and guests.  Below is a list of some volunteer opportunities that would connect you to your church and its people.

503 Pioneers

Begun in 1998 when the church purchased four additional acres adjacent to First Center on Custer Road, and as a precursor to purchasing the 14.5 acres for our current campus, this group of volunteers started to "care" for the 22.5 acres of land the church now owns. Since the group was "pioneering" into a new land and the address was going to be 503 North Central Expressway, they called themselves the 503 Pioneers. A portion of one of the First Center buildings was converted to a maintenance room, equipment was purchased, and the 503 Pioneers were off and running.

The primary function now is the upkeep of 8 acres of land across Custer from the main campus, with a "good neighbor" spirit to maintain the land as an asset to the neighborhood.  The bulk of the work is accomplished on Thursday mornings, and an occasional Saturday work day rounds out the commitment.

Altar Guild

This is a group of men and women who prepare the chancel area for Sunday morning worship each week. They set the altar in the chancel each week, see that the baptismal bowl is filled, prepare elements for worship experiences requiring communion. This group assists with the preparation of the complex for the Advent season. Individuals work with a team. Each team is responsible for three non-consecutive monthes during the year. Another area of the Altar Guild is a group interested in creating new paraments for use during the Christian year. This is a "behind the scenes" service opportunity.

Communion Servers

Throughout the year the congregation is encouraged to assist our pastors in serving communion.  This is a meaningful worship experience for all involved.   As a communion server you are Serving Christ.  This is a small commitment of time but an enormous way to grow in you faith.

Golf Cart Drivers

Thanks to a generous donation, two 8 passenger golf carts were purchased to provide shuttle service between parking lots and buildings. All driving is done on Sunday mornings.  Drivers must have a valid Texas driver's license and be at least 25 years old.

Receptionists

First United Methodist Church Richardson has always strongly believed in a real person answer all calls coming into the church during business hours.  To that end, the front desk is staffed by church volunteers that receive all incoming calls and perform other light office duties.

The work shifts are many and varied during the hours of 9am - 4pm, Monday - Friday.
