What can I expect when I arrive to First United Methodist Church of Richardson?
If you are a first-time guest, please feel free to use the designated parking spaces located on the south side of the building in front of the Sanctuary and main porte-cochere. Our parking lot is tended by golf cart greeters who will assure you are pointed in the right direction as you make your way inside. Golf cart greeters also provide rides to walking impaired and families with small children. Around the campus, you will see greeters wearing red sashes with the word "Welcome" embroidered on them. Greeters are here to welcome you with a warm smile and answer any questions you may have. Once you are inside the building you will find a lobby area with couches and a coffee bar. A welcome desk is served by volunteers, also wearing red welcome sashes, who are happy to assist you in continuing to find your way around the campus. Please let us know you are our guest so that we may reach out to you in friendship.
Where do I go if I have a question or need more information?
Greeters wearing a red welcome sashes are easily visible and readily dispersed around campus all morning on Sundays. Please let us know you are our guest and let us assist you. Also, there are three Welcome Centers on campus where volunteers are available to answer your questions and help you find your way to worship, Sunday school classes, child care and many others. Finally, if you are looking for a specific event, we have media monitors throughout the hallways listing all the activities in the life of our church.
What is your worship style? What can I expect during service?
Worship services are held in the Sanctuary. All are welcome to participate, including families with children. Children's activity bags are available at the entrances to the sanctuary to keep little ones occupied. You should expect to see the youth Chapel choir singing anthems and leading hymns most Sundays at the 8:45 a.m. service. The Chancel choir leads music during the 9:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services. Hymnals are used, as well media screens, to display worship music and information. Churchwide program announcements are made, worship attendees are led in prayer, and Dr. Clayton Oliphint delivers an inspiring sermon. Worship concludes with a closing hymn and an open invitation for newcomers to join the church. Services typically last one hour.
Communion The communion table in the United Methodist Church is open to all who profess their faith in Jesus Christ, without regard to age or church membership. Communion is served during worship at 8:45 a.m., 9:45 a.m., 11:00 a.m. on the first Sunday of each month. Communion is also served on second through fifth Sundays in the Chapel at 8:15 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. for those who are interested in participating in communion each week. For more information on Communion click here.
What should I wear?
A wonderful advantage to being a large congregation is that we have several "right ways" of doing things. The majority of our congregation dresses business casual for worship on Sunday mornings. However, on any given Sunday, you will see people attending worship in attire ranging from shorts and t-shirts to a dress or suit. You are welcome to come just as you are.
