Contemplative Prayer and Practices

A guest lecture by Susanne Johnson

The Contemplative Prayer and Practices Lecture will explore various types of contemplative prayer as well as give participants some concrete pointers and aids for applying the practice in both individual quiet time as well as a group setting. Participants should be prepared to experience several short interludes of prayer in the styles discussed during lecture.  Participants will also have the opportunity to ultimately learn, share and experience with one another.

Dr. Susanne Johnson is an ordained Disciples of Christ minister and a member of Midway Hills Christian Church. She is also a tenured professor at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, Dallas.

Invitation to Meditative Prayer Practices

Elizabeth Hunter, Facilitator

There are many benefits to the practice of any kind of prayer and it is the basis of Matthew 6:6 which tells us to go into "our secret place" and commune with God.  The more you practice meditative prayer, and it is a learned behavior, the easier it becomes.  Most prayer time involves us telling or asking God about something.  Meditative prayer is learning to listen and there are many ways to do so.  Join others on this tried and true way of knowing God-knowing yourself. "Be still and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10
