Be Aware

  • Breast Cancer affects over 2,600,000 women in the United States.
  • Most breast lumps are not cancer. However, it is important to obtain a definite diagnosis instead of assuming that a lump is harmless. Breast cancer isn’t just a woman’s disease. Men, do not ignore lumps in your breasts!
  • 1 in 8 women will have breast cancer in their lifetime. Early detection and appropriate treatment can help increase chances of survival. Routine self-exams should begin around age 20 with the addition of mammograms starting at age 35-40. Mammograms could start earlier depending on certain risk factors.
  • Recent statistics show that 30 to 40 percent of all cancers may be prevented by changes in diet and physical activity. More than 75% of women with breast cancer have no family history of the disease. Simply being female puts all women at risk.
