GEMS Special Needs Ministry

GEMS is about sharing God's love with some very special children by Giving, Embracing, Mentoring and Serving. GEMS children need what any child needs: to feel loved and safe and accepted. 

All children are welcome at FUMC Richardson. If your child has a special need, please contact Director of Children's Ministries Allyson George at (972) 996-0120. We would like to accommodate your child in the best way possible.

Pagers are available upon request.

- Sunday School Buddy Program in which a volunteer is assigned to help your child while in Sunday school or in a separate classroom.
- Specific special needs Sunday school classroom for children who need a different environment than traditional Sunday school. Room 120.  Please contact Allyson George, 972- 996-0120, in advance in order to ensure that a teacher will be present.

Special Needs Volunteers

Would you be interested in helping us serve children with special needs on Sunday mornings?

Possible Volunteer opportunities:

- Sunday School Buddy - Accompany a student with special needs to his or her 'mainstreamed' Sunday school class.
- Teach in the Special Needs Classroom - At 9:45 a.m. we offer a class specifically for children who need a different Sunday school environment.
- Sunday Morning Coordinator - Greet parents; answer questions; communicate needs; and check on students, buddies and teachers in this program.
