The Garden Ministry began in 2008 with an idea from the Landscape Committee and support from Rev. Ann Willett. The Garden Ministry has 16 members on the roster. As the group has grown, we have undertaken several projects.
The Garden Ministry also has a 25’ x 25’ vegetable garden and a greenhouse next to the Woman’s Center on Custer. Over 275 pounds of fresh produce was donated to the Network of Community Ministries in 2011. Included in that were cucumbers, peppers, Swiss Chard, eggplant, and okra. Two additional beds were added last year which we hope will provide us with the opportunity to increase our production!
We meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month. First Tuesday meetings are held at the Woman's Center, while the 3rd Tuesday meetings are held in Room 2F of the family life building. Meetings begin at 7:00 pm. The Garden Ministry, supported by the Methodist doctrine, makes all efforts to be green, support the environment, and encourage gardening. It also provides a ministry for members and non-members, who enjoy gardening to participate, educate, teach and learn.
