The Gardens of First United Methodist ChurchIn 2007 a Master Planned Landscape for our entire campus was introduced. The Landscape Committee began the Opening the Gardens campaign for a brief two month period. This campaign began accepting gift of all sizes for all of the gardens and projects. Early donors received a green T shirt with the “Sowing Seeds, Growing Disciples” logo on it. First Garden Installed January, 2008The entrance to the Education building on the north side of the campus was selected as the first garden to be installed. This entrance is used each day of the week by the children’s day school. Beautification was needed at this location. This uniquely shady location required specially selected plants. Hostas, aucubas, ferns as well as mondo grass, hydrangea and aralia were used in these plantings. Stop by and see how this garden grows. Sculpture Garden installation beginsThe sculpture has been delivered. Jesus came to us from Walla Walla on a flat-bed truck on February 6th 2008. The installation took place after the noon Lenten service and was an inspiration to all in attendance. Please refer to the photos of the delivery and installation.
The garden construction surrounding the sculpture begins now. Walk by regularly and see the changes in progress. A wall will be built surrounding the sculpture on the east side. In the wall will be three arches duplicating the windows in the church. One of the arches will host a water feature designed to add softness and sound damping. Church members have made gracious gifts to allow us to plant several gardens to enhance the sculpture. |
