Questions and Answers What is the purpose of the “Pathway With Purpose” campaign? Why do we need to do these things? Why do we need to do them now—can’t we wait a little longer? How much will all of this cost? How do we plan to pay for it? Is this the final phase of construction? When will commitments be made? What can I do?
Questions and Answers The purpose is to fund the Phase II building priorities of our overall Master Plan. Those priorities as defined by the Project Executive committee working with eight design teams are to: Put our church in a strong financial position for the future. The best course of action to accomplish this goal is a mortgage reduction to give us flexibility to service our current loan while allowing us to grow and expand our ministries as needed. Build an addition to the education building to accommodate the needs of our pre-school, day school, children’s and adult education. The third education building will provide additional classrooms as well as allow for configuration of larger rooms for meeting space. Build the music suite to accommodate the growing needs of the Music Ministry, and renovate the 2nd floor of the Family Life Center to meet the needs of our growing Youth Ministry.
Great things have been happening since we moved to our new church campus in 2006. A few examples are listed below: We have had thousands of first time visitors. Over 800 new members have joined the church. Children’s ministries continue to grow. The music program participants and programs have increased at all levels. Youth ministries are growing in all areas. Senior Adult programming has increased dramatically. New Sunday school classes have been formed, but we are out of room for new classes at 9:45 a.m. New and expanded ministries such as Nothin’But Nets, Men of Faith/Men of Honor and International Christmas Market are serving an expanded community.
As mentioned in the prior question, our growth in visitors, new members, and involvement in existing ministries as well as establishment of new ministries has already put pressure on the capacity of our existing facilities. We have already added additional parking following Phase I construction, and need to initiate Phase II of our Master Plan. With the current timeline, construction would begin in 2009 with completion in 2010.
Our Pathway with Purpose capital campaign target is $10M. Our priorities define how we will utilize the campaign commitments: The first $5M will be utilized for mortgage loan reduction and flexibility to both service our current loan and expand our ministries as needed. When we reach $7.5M in pledges, the next $2.5M will be utilized to build the third education building as well as complete the 2nd floor renovations in the Family Life Center. When we reach $10M in pledges, the next $2.5M will fund the Music Suite. In the event that we have pledges over the $10M target, the Project Executive Committee has identified the next set of priorities in our pathway to the Master Plan.
Our existing loan contract requires us to conduct a capital stewardship campaign in 2008 with some proceeds going toward reduction of the outstanding loan balance. The bank has agreed in principle to provide a separate $5M in construction loans to be repaid by the proceeds of a capital stewardship campaign. In essence, we will use a “cash and carry” approach whereby we time the construction to coincide with receipt of cash from the campaign pledges to reduce the need to draw on construction loans, reducing debt service requirements.
This will not complete the full Master Plan construction for our church campus. The townhall meetings and scale models of the Master Plan have described the overall design and footprint of the church campus when completed. This is another step along the pathway to implementing the Master Plan.
Commitments will be made on Sunday,April 20 during a special service at our church campus. Commitments will be for a 3 year period which will run from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2011.
