Stories from our pathway

Founded in 1886, First United Methodist Church Richardson enjoys a legacy marked by bold steps, including establishment of the Greenville campus in 1898 and the Beltline Campus in 1958. In 1999, faced with overcrowding and the inability to grow its ministries, FUMCR drew strength from the past and decided to relocate to our current campus on Central Expressway.

Since our move to Central Expressway in March, 2006, we have seen the fulfillment of our dreams: increased worship attendance, filled children’s classrooms, and over 800 new members. We are faced again with meeting the needs of a growing church family as well as those yet to come. With the same determination as our ancestors, we want to continue visionary steps, through Pathway with Purpose.

“FUMCR has helped me become more confident in who I am and helped me realize that there is meaning to life. Growing up in the church has helped me mature and grow closer to God.The people and adults in the youth group are my family. I would be a completely different person without their love and support.”

—Leslie Roberts

“Although we have been in our new church home only two years, we are already starting to see the need for additional facilities to nurture the spiritual needs of our children and youth, as well as adults. The need for new classroom facilities is a reality now. It is not just by building more classrooms, but by making use of our God-given talents to share with others our faith and its power in our own lives. Addressing the need for additional space for our educational activities is a challenge we must face.”

—Jim Schwartz

“God has been active in our lives for a very long time and has graced us with blessing upon blessing. The desire to be generous with our time and resources is one of His greatest blessings to us. As our church is in the most exciting period of new member growth that we can remember, it seems to us that there are a lot of people searching for something that only God can provide. We believe that our church can offer a place where God can fill these needs and give grace to these lives.”

After 15 years as a choir member, I think of what I’ve gained—the heart-swelling joy I experience working hard to learn and sing beautiful music in several different languages, the fun of fellowship, truly good and lasting friendships, and the opportunity to share God’s message of love with others through music.

When we were searching for a church home, two important factors were a pastor whose messages would lift up Jesus, minister to our needs, and encourage us in our day to day life, and good music with hymns and a fine organ. We found that and more in FUMCR. We love the quality of the music, the spirit in which it is presented and the faithfulness we see in the people involved in this ministry.

I am 9 years old and am an active member of FUMCR. Some of my best friends are from church; the basketball court rocks! I keep telling all of my friends to come here. It’s great to have a Sunday school room full of friends—even if we’re a little bit crowded sometimes!
