Liturgical Seasons |
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.’ Revelation 21:3-4(NRSV) Christmas, EpiphanyAlthough we think of Christmas throughout Advent, the liturgical season of Christmas begins on December 25, the day we remember Jesus' birth to Mary, and continues for twelve days. During the twelve days of Christmas we might recall the many ways in which Christ comes into our world and lives. You can invite Christ into your life anew by attending worship. The Christmas season flows into the season of Epiphany, the recognition of Christ. We recall the recognition of Christ by the Magi. We recall the recognition of Christ by God through the Holy Spirit at Jesus' baptism. Epiphany is on January 6. The season of Epiphany is a season of celebration that continues until the beginning of Lent. The last day of Epiphany is always a Tuesday. (Secular celebrations that coincide with this religious season are known as Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday for the final day of the season.) |
