Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him.’ Acts 2:38-39

Pentecost

Pentecost, so called because it was fifty days (not counting Sundays) after Easter, was originally and is still a Jewish festival of the early harvest. Christians celebrate a marvelous event that happened during the first Pentecost festival in Jerusalem after Jesus' death and resurrection. You can read about it in Acts 2:1-42. Pentecost Sunday is June 4 in 2006.

The liturgical color for Pentecost is red. Music used for Pentecost suggests the excitement of those followers of Jesus who were first moved by the Holy Spirit to preach that day. Pentecost is considered the day the church was born.
