Student Ministries Internship (Worship Leader) Posting

First UMC Richardson is seeking an undergraduate or graduate student who is called to ministry and wants to learn more about serving in a church to serve as a Student Ministries Intern. We are a large church serving over 6000 members and are committed to living out our mission: with open hearts and minds, we welcome people for Christ, grow people in Christ, and serve people with Christ. The Student Ministry Internship is for a year and begins in mid-August. Internships have the possibility of being renewed for the next academic year through a reapplication process. The position will provide leadership for the youth band, which plays on Sunday mornings and evenings, as well as on youth trips.


  • High School Graduate over the age of 19 – preferably a local college undergraduate or graduate student
  • Skilled musician
  • Previous experience in youth ministry as a participant or student leader is a plus
  • Must love working with junior high and senior high students, be able to relate to them, and enjoy building relationships with both students and volunteer staff team 


  • Assist the Student Ministry Team in nurturing the spiritual development of junior and senior high youth
  • Plan, coordinate, and lead music weekly on Sunday mornings and evenings, as well as on trips
  • Maintain instruments, repairs, worship needs; reconfigure stage for musicians as needed
  • Coordinate and lead youth band rehearsals
  • Teach Sunday school
  • Assist with junior and senior UMYF on Sunday nights (lead as necessary)
  • Assist with planning and implementation of special youth events
  • Assist with youth leadership development by supporting and participating on the Council on Youth Ministry
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the youth for the purpose of discipleship, spiritual growth, and development
  • Assist with updating social media sites
  • Help plan and attend retreats, summer mission trips, lock ins/outs, and other events
  • Hang out with youth and have fun
  • Encourage spiritual maturity in the youth through assisting with coordination of and attendance at monthly service opportunities

In addition to the responsibilities listed above, opportunities to learn more about and work with other ministries in the church are available, if interested.


Interns are compensated $650 a month for approximately 15 hours of work a week (mainly Wednesday nights and Sunday morning/evening). Costs associated with attending trips, retreats, and outings are covered by the church.
