Daily "Art Time" with Serving in Mind

By Jaime Lyons

During these scary and uncertain times, I was trying to think of a way we could do something to serve. It’s obviously hard to do while being confined to the home, but our minds kept going to the healthcare workers who are working tirelessly on the front lines battling this new and scary virus and also to the senior citizens living in nursing homes who are no longer allowed visitors and must be feeling so lonely. We thought that writing letters, making cards and sending words of encouragement was a simple way we could show them we care and try to brighten up the long, emotional and lonely days. We decided to expand this idea by getting more to participate and included our neighbors and our Sunday school class. The kids love it and we look forward to our daily “art time” of making cards and putting them in the collection box or mailing them. We are continuing to think of other people we could share the love and encouragement with and make cards for, such as grocery store employees and delivery drivers, as the weeks go by.
