Hosted by Senior Singles Sunday School Class: This course will examine the doctrine of the person of Jesus as Christ, God’s only Son the Lord. Come and explore the question posed by Jesus by looking at the ancient culture, the relationships Jesus was believed to have had, and Biblical text. Then ask, “What do the titles we give Jesus say about us and our relationship to him?” Facilitated by LaRuth Morrow, a Certified Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church and 22 year member of FUMCR.

Not all professing Christians experience the “blessed assurance” associated with vivid personal religious experiences like John Wesley’s. For those of us so lacking, are there other substantive grounds for our belief in God? Some per­sons find such ground in a new paradigm of God. For others, specific human needs and capaci­ties provide such. And recently, certain researchers in the emerging field of neuroscience find intimations of a domain beyond… sacred, real and accessible. New paradigms, insights and intimations in theology, psychology and neuroscience… might they be helpful in your own faith journey?

Join us for a study and discussion of Adam Hamilton’s book, Making Sense of the Bible. We’ll explore the overall message of the Old and New Testaments, the role of God and people in creating the Bible, and how to make sense of challenging topics in the Bible like faith and science, violence, and sexuality.

This experiential course utilizes the Enneagram, an ancient tool synthesized from centuries of Judeo-Christian faith and scholarship and is used for cultivating self-awareness, growth and personal transformation. Insights gained from this course can answer life-long questions about our behavior and unconscious motivations. Newly learned self knowledge assists in our walks with God and enables our true and best self to emerge and can transform the way we relate to others.

Jesus promised his followers "abundant" life. Not more stuff, but happiness... generous, deep down and pervasive! Life that's not merely pleasant and good, but meaningful, rich and ful­filling! Theologians describe such a life as one filled with "joy"; psychologists call it "happiness." Can we gain it directly or is it always a by-product, most often beyond our control? Are we each hard-wired for just a certain amount of it, and no more? Why aren’t all Christians supremely happy, all the time? Let’s consider how findings in the emerging field of Positive Psychology can help us realize greater happiness throughout our life’s journey.
