Current Needs

  • Single Parent Action Network  •  Beginning 10/23/2019

Single Parent Action Network (SPAN) needs volunteers to help with the regular monthly dinner and meeting. Sunday School Classes, Small Groups or any other group that is looking for an opportunity to help can schedule a month to provide and serve a meal. Presenters of educational, well-being, and parenting topics can also be scheduled for 2020.The meetings are usually on the third Monday of the month but may be adjusted for a holiday. The parents attend an informative or fun program as the children are occupied with crafts, play in the Gym and homework. SPAN also needs a children's activity coordinator to create a craft for the younger children and games for the older ones. Donations are always needed especially around the holidays, and the start of school.

We will be shopping for coats to distribute at the November 18, 2019 and have had specific requests for sixteen coats. Help with shopping, discounts or monetary donations to help cover the costs are gratefully appreciated.

  • Handyman.  •  Beginning 11/1/2019

The volunteers at First Richardson Helpers provide minor home maintenance and repair service with a key focus on safety issues in the home.
Typical repairs are the type that can be completed in 3 hours over a couple of work sessions. On a special basis, we do work on projects that are more complex and take more time than typical.
    Examples include:
Installation of bathroom grab bars and outdoor hand rails
Installation of smoke detectors and batteries
Basic home repairs (dripping faucets, running toilets, screen repair, minor electrical)
Basic home maintenance (caulking, light bulb and A/C filter replacement)
Issues resulting from City of Richardson Code Enforcement letters
    Minor fence repair
    And Much More ...
We help seniors and others with special needs within the Richardson Community or those associated with our sponsoring organizations. There is no charge for the help we provide. Donations are welcome to offset cost of materials and to help others who are less fortunate.

  • Christmas Eve Volunteers  •  Beginning 12/24/2019

Advent at FUMCR is quite busy and we are quickly approaching Christmas Eve: a day where we welcome more guests and members through our doors than ever before. In order to make it run smoothly, we need help from congregants like you to make it a special, warm experience for all who enter!

Serving during Christmas Eve is a wonderful opportunity to give back to our community of faith and make an impact on guests from our local community. It is an incredibly special moment to share with everyone walking through our doors and no experience is necessary. Most of our opportunities are only 30 mins long and happen right before the services, so that you can still enjoy any service you would like to attend.

Service times are 1pm (Modern), 4pm (Pageant), 5pm (Modern), 6pm, 8pm and 10pm (Traditional Services).

    We have following needs:

    - Exterior Door Greeters – around 30 mins long before each service (needed at all services) – great for those with families who want to serve together! :-)

    - Golf Cart Drivers – must be 25 years old or older – 30 min time periods before services
    (needed at 5, 6, and 8pm)

    - Traditional Service Ushers - help with passing out bulletins and collecting offering (4,6,8 or 10pm services)

    - Modern Welcoming Team – help greeter and usher during Modern service (1 or 5pm service)

    - Welcome Desk Team – help answer simple questions for guests (such as locations of services), or provide hearing aids - 30 mins before services (needed at all services)

You can choose your own time slots and we will send instructions for you before Christmas Eve to make sure you are ready! It’s an easy way to make a difference in the lives of many! If you plan on worshipping with us this Christmas Eve please visit the link provided to sign up.
